A practical guide from DigiMartrix. Use it to frame the decision, make trade-offs visible and choose a next step that fits your context.
Start with one consistent report view
Select the correct Search Console property, Web search type, date range and filters. Export the same period for queries and pages, and note the selected host and country. Query tables may omit some anonymized searches, so their totals will not always match overall totals.
Read impressions and clicks together
An impression means a page appeared in a result; it does not prove a user read it or that demand is large. Compare impressions, clicks, CTR and average position by query and page. Segment by country and device where it changes the decision, and compare equivalent periods.
Group queries by what the searcher needs
Separate brand navigation, local service discovery, product research and informational questions. Give each important intent one useful page. When a query does not match the business, do not create a page just to attract it.
Improve the destination, not just its title
Check that the page answers the query with clear, current information and a relevant next step. Use a distinct title and description as a concise summary, while making sure the visible page content supports them. Publish evidence, limitations and examples where available.
Protect migrations with URL checks
Choose one HTTPS host and one canonical URL per page. Use permanent redirects only when the new page closely serves the old page’s intent. Keep unrelated pages returning a real not-found response. Update internal links, canonical tags and the sitemap to point to the final URLs.
Monitor after release
Inspect priority URLs, confirm redirects and canonical selection, and submit the current sitemap. Indexing and ranking are not immediate guarantees. Track new query/page data over time and judge changes by qualified enquiries and other real outcomes as well as clicks.
Use official guidance and avoid shortcuts
Google recommends helpful, reliable, people-first content and accurate structured data. Do not publish thin doorway pages, repeat keywords unnaturally or claim that a sitemap submission guarantees inclusion. See the linked Search Central references below.
